The “Mad Men” way of marketing and advertising doesn’t always work with social media and online marketing. Once upon a time everything revolved around campaigns with a beginning, middle, and an end. With the introduction of Social Media and Inbound Marketing companies now need to be interactive and create content that pertains to what is happening in real time. Not a set schedule that offers no flexibility. The days of campaigns are numbered!
Have Goals But Be Listening and Observing
A business can have goals of what they want to achieve with their marketing/advertising. They can even decide on some themes for what they are going to be focusing on such as holiday promotions etc. But they MUST be listening and observing.
How many opportunities have been missed? Are your customers or potential customers asking questions you can answer? Did something ground breaking happen that could have been used to indirectly promote your company? If you aren’t listening it is the same as when a tree falls in the forest. Does it make a sound?
Do You Really Not Have Time
The usual reason I hear for why a business isn’t more active on social media or taking advantage of real time marketing is TIME. They say they just don’t have enough time in the day to add this to what they are already doing to run their business. What is the definition of insanity…oh yeah…doing the same thing over and over expecting the same result. It is the same thing with your business. If you just keep doing the same things and don’t ever do something else, then you will continue to just tread water.
Do something new and carve out the time. Or hire someone else to do it for you. Just start to invest in social media and real time marketing. It can boost your sales, bring in more customers, and provide you with more money. All of these things allow you to hire more employees. Which lets you spend less time in your business and more time on your business.
So the question is: Do you have the time now or are your “campaigns” still working for you?
